Year 5 Curriculum 21/22
Hello and welcome to Year 5!
My name is Mr Green. You will be taught by me for the majority of the time. On Thursday afternoons and Friday's all day you will be taught by Mrs Hook. Miss Ewart will also be supporting us in class.
This term we will be looking at the topic Stone Age to Iron Age which will feed into English and our Theme lessons. In English we will be looking at recounts, reports, storyboards and narratives based on the book ‘Ug’ by Raymond Briggs. English lessons will also include weekly grammar and comprehension sessions.
In Maths we will be covering place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division this term. Please make sure you practise your times tables at home to help with your learning. We will be having regular arithmetic tests and times tables activities with lots of problem solving and reasoning practise to help improve our Maths.
All theme lessons will be based around the Stone Age theme. This will include the History and Geography elements along with weaving for Art. Computing, PSHE, Music, French and RE lessons will also take place this term. Reading Children should be reading at least 3 times a week. This can be their schoolbook, library book or own book. Reading must be recorded in the reading record which will be checked every week.
The children will have English and Maths homework each week. There will also be a topic-based homework for the term. The topic homework will have a range of activities for the children to choose from. Homework will be set on Seesaw on Friday and due on Wednesday.
Spellings will be introduced at the start of the week. Children will need to learn their spellings for a weekly test which will be on Fridays. PE Children will have outdoor PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
PE will be done outside unless the weather is poor. School PE kit is a white t-shirt and dark shorts. A dark coloured track suit may be worn for outdoor PE. Children will need to change into their kit BEFORE they arrive in school on both Wednesday AND Thursday.
