Sport Premium at Orchard CofE Primary School

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers. This funding is ring-fenced funding – only to be spent on PE and sport – will be payed directly to school who will decide what is best for their children’s needs with the aim of improving the quality of provision of PE in every state primary school in England. This could vary from specialist coaching for school’s sport and teacher training for Physical Education to dedicated sports programmes, Change4life sports clubs and for afterschool competitions. Here at Orchard, our allocation for 2019-20 is £17,570 which we are channelling directly into developing the provision of Sport and PE throughout the school. We have developed a plan that is based around the academic year September to July 2020.

At Orchard Church of England Primary School, PE and Sport play a very important part of school life. We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of our pupils and through participation in sport and physical education, our pupils learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.


The purpose of the Sports Premium initiative is to ensure that ‘all pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity.’

· Big moves - initiative for KS1 to improve fine and gross moor skills.

· Energise Club – a club designed to get the least active, active.

· Mini-GALS – a club specifically targeted at getting girls active.

· LADs – a club specifically targeted at getting less active boys more active

· Positive mental health training.

· Alternative active clubs for Y5/6 boys.

· Inclusive sessions for Yr3/4

Specialist Coaching

Outside coaching to offer a broader experience of sporting activities for the children.

CPD for staff to develop teaching and subject knowledge in all areas of PE.
