Art
At Orchard C of E Primary School we believe Art and Design education stimulates creativity and imagination whilst giving the children opportunities to develop and extend their skills.
Art and Design will be taught as an individual subject, incorporated into our creative curriculum topics wherever possible to ensure broad, balanced, relevant and interesting experiences.
We would like our children to be able to express themselves confidently through our teaching and the exploration of different art and design techniques, and through exposure to a variety of media, styles, and inspiring and varied artists. We feel this will help our children to develop a sense of their own style, talents and tastes.
We hope these experiences will ensure our pupils have opportunities to flourish, to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially; and understand how Art and Design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world today.

Design and Technology
At Orchard C of E Primary School it is our intent for D&T to offer children the chance to use creative thinking and design with a defined purpose and tangible outcome.
Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils will be taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in a process of designing and making. These different projects will allow children to work both independently, and collaboratively promoting teamwork.
We would like our children to be inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real-life purpose. They will work in a range of contexts through our topic-based approach which will allow for cross curricular links to be made.
The children will also be given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present Design and Technology, its uses and its effectiveness, and they will therefore be encouraged to become confident and enthusiastic innovators and risk-takers.
