Our English curriculum at Orchard develops children’s love of reading, writing and discussion. We aim to inspire an appreciation of our rich and varied literary heritage and a habit of reading widely and often. We encourage children to take pride in their writing, by writing clearly and accurately and through adapting their language and style for a range of contexts. We inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and who can use discussion to communicate and further their learning. It is our intent at Orchard to provide pupils with a high-quality education in English that will teach pupils to speak, read and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others effectively. At Orchard we build an English curriculum which develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge so that the children know more, remember more and understand more.
